Hi there! My name is MaryAlice. I am a small town girl from Riverdale, California. I grew up on my family farm with four older brothers and it has shaped me into a tough woman with a strong drive. I moved to Sacramento four years ago, to pursue my International Business and Communication Studies. I am a member of the Student Economic Association and International Business Organization on-campus and most recently the Peace and Conflict International club; joining these clubs has encouraged me to be active in the community, both locally and globally.

In the fall of 2012, I had the most spectacular experience studying abroad in Budapest, Hungary. I made dozens of friends and established a new comfort zone for myself. Studying abroad is excellent opportunity to grow and learn about oneself. Because I have studied abroad, I am a determined young woman with big dreams to travel the world.

I enjoy spending my time outdoors, whether it is biking, gardening or swimming, outside is where you will find me. For the past three months I have volunteered with Hands On Sacramento as a project leader for Beautify the Parks project. Hands On Sacramento aims for innovative social change by bringing volunteers together and facilitating a meaningful volunteer experience. Beautify the Parks is a project on the third Saturday of each month that brings young volunteers together to help the City of Sacramento and Department of Parks and Recreation keep Sacramento parks clean and safe.

I am excited to be part of this project because I truly believe children are the future. I want to work and support youth projects, ambitions and dreams because that is the future. I want to gain a better understanding of young people in America. Because you may not be what you think you are, but you are definitely what you are thinking. I look forward to sharing Sacramento with you!
