The Ubuntu Green G-Squad will be spending this Saturday transforming a blighted lot into a bright spot for the entire community, when they turn a vacant lot at 44th Street and 14thAvenue into a long-awaited community garden.

The project began last summer by Ubuntu Green’s Green Youth Leadership Team (aka The G-Squad), when they cleared a vacant lot of weeds, brush, trash and other hazardous items to make way for the community garden.  The site is adjacent to Home Cash Market, a corner store that once was a magnet for criminal activity.  Under new ownership, the Market is committed to sell fresh fruits and vegetables to help improve the health of its customers.

Ubuntu Green will plant the garden with the help of the Sacramento Yard Farmer and students from Loyola Marymount University of Los Angeles as part of their Alternative Spring Break.  The project is made possible by the generous support of Alchemist CDC, Soil Born Farms, The California Endowment, Bank of America, the California Wellness Foundation, DoSomething.org and the Sierra Health Foundation.

Anyone who wants to volunteer to help with this project is welcome to attend. For a printable flyer for this event, click here.
