Every year, the American Library Association and Scholastic celebrate National Library Week by awarding a grant to the library that finds the best way to represent their annual theme. This year’s winner? Sacramento Public Library! Using the 2012 theme “You Belong @ Your Library”, Sacramento Public Library designed a week-long series of GLBTQIA–themed programs to reinforce the message that the library is a safe place of belonging for all members of the community. Partnering with organizations like the Rainbow Pages and the Gay and Lesbian Center as well as individuals like local photographer Terri Brindisi, the library has created a marketing campaign to let everyone know the library is here for you! This is the first series of its kind in Sacramento–featuring programs like a rainbow family egg hunt, same sex speed dating, “It Gets Better” video filming and more!
