This year, Francis House Center of Sacramento is celebrating its 41st anniversary, and on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, this very important Sacramento agency will host their 21st Annual “Feast for the Streets” Gala, benefiting the homeless organization. This usually sold-out major fundraiser, touted as one of Sacramento’s premiere food, wine and beer tasting event, will take place at the Scottish Rite Center (6151 H Street) from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

Even in good economic times the demand for services Francis House Center provides to homeless and desperate individuals and families is high. This year more than any other, Francis House Center has been overwhelmed with families who in the past would have barely weathered a small downturn but with the unemployment rate so high, especially here in Sacramento, the number of needy families has skyrocketed.

Under the direction of their new Executive Director, Faith Whitmore, Francis House Center is working hard to keep up with unprecedented demand for those vital direct services. Services such as resource counseling and referrals that assist those experiencing poverty in breaking the cycle is most important. Those in need find emergency assistance with transportation and identification, temporary shelter, employment services, advocacy, personal attention and caring.

Francis House Center is supported by a host of interdenominational groups, as well as community grants, businesses and individuals. Funds raised by “Feast for the Streets” will determine the level of services they are able to provide.

The goal of Francis House Center is not to sustain people where they are now, but to help provide the way to lift them towards self-sufficiency. This cornerstone agency in the social service community is more about giving a hand up than a hand out.

On April 25th, forty of Sacramento’s finest restaurants and caterers, along with six exceptional wineries, two brewers and several other business partners will pull together a feast to remember. The evening which begins at 5:30pm will include gala food and wine and beer tasting, music, silent and live auctions, raffle and door prizes and loads of fun.
