Jeff Shaw, Operations Manager for Low-Power-FM radio KDRT in Davis was a gracious host this past week, welcoming Ron Cooper and Shane Carpenter to their radio studio inside Davis Media Access. Every inch of space is efficiently utilized, inviting Davis residents to take classes and broadcast their own radio program on the 100 watt station 95.7 FM. KDRT-LP (generally pronounced
“K-Dirt”), is a low power FM radio station with studio and transmitter located at Davis Media Access, the public access cable television provider. Launched on September 23, 2004, KDRT also streams its broadcast from www.kdrt.org – You can check out their web site for schedules.

Shaw and Todd Urick of “Common Frequency” shared their insights on station operations and the LP-FM application process. In the next year (specific date not yet announced), the FCC will
determine if LP-FM frequencies will be available in our area. Radio producers and the Access Sacramento Board are interested in applying and sharing our studios with the community.
