The citizens of the Sacramento region are being encouraged to utilize a new interactive on-line map which provides an astonishing amount of data in regards to the health issues facing their communities.
For the past twelve years, Catholic Healthcare West member-hospitals (including Mercy), Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region, and UC Davis Health System have partnered on the Community Needs Assessment project in three years intervals. This collaborative approach has been found to be efficient and effective, and provides useful information that allows for comprehensive community benefit planning. In 2007 the four health care systems hired Valley Vision to conduct the CNA. The result was a dynamic and accessible CNA that was more beneficial to the hospitals and other health care stakeholders.
The latest CNA and the associated Healthy Living Map is even better than previous versions. It includes mapping of the latest health indicator data, zip code level data that can be aggregated and/or compared to county and state rates, and refinements that make the Healthy Living Map much more navigable. From any page on the Healthy Living Map a user can click on Zip Map to mine health indicator data; Provider Directory to locate health and mental health care services; Data Dictionary for a glossary of terms; and Links for helpful resources pertaining to health care. It is hoped that individuals will utilize this information to advance their efforts within the health care community.
