Christina Marie, local independent filmmaker, welcomed hundreds of supporters on Thursday evening January 26 to the premiere of the documentary film, “Miss Representation”. It was also the kick-off event in support of media mentoring by the Capitol Indie Collective. In addition to the free film showing at the Crest, the evening included a panel discussion by Kitty O’Neal (KFBK Radio), Steve Hamm (Artist/Designer), Tracy Saville (Writer), Mark S. Allen (KMAX 31) and moderated by Christina Marie.

In attendance were many young women interested in the message of the film – that the many media messages dominating our lives, reinforce negative stereotypes of women and serve to diminish their numbers in arenas of power and influence. The documentary cited many statistics demonstrating the validity of this thesis.

  • The U.S. is 90th in the world in terms of women in national legislatures.
  • Women are merely 3% of Fortune 50 CEO’s.
  • About 25% of girls will experience teen dating violence.

Christina Marie invited interested audience members to find out more about the movie at www.MissRepresentation.org and to support local mentoring efforts by going to the web site www.CapitolIndieCollective.org – donations to the cause are welcomed.
